Lecture 6 from the online course “Disability and Social Inclusion”
Summary: According to data provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Center for Disability Rights (CDR), people living with disabilities are between 1,5 and 2,5 times more likely to become victims of physical, psychological, sexual or other violence, compared to people without disabilities. The numbers among women with disabilities are even more shocking, as at least one out of two admits to have been at the receiving end of some form of abuse in her lifetime. In this lecture, we will: 1) outline the main types of violent situations that are more likely to involve people with disabilities; 2) raise awareness about the struggle of exceptionally vulnerable groups of people with disabilities, such as women, children or POC with disabilities.
