MILIEU Project Elevates Scientific Communication at IPS Summer School in Varna

26 – 29 September 2023, Varna, Bulgaria

In order to foster excellence in scientific communication, the MILIEU project collaborated with the IPS Summer School for Doctoral Students in Varna for the third year in a row. The theme of this year’s summer school, which ran from September 26th to September 29th, was “Communication of Science to Non-Professionals.”

Doctoral candidates eager to improve their communication skills attended a series of informative seminars on a variety of topics. Exploring psychological aspects of presenting scientific results, honing creative writing skills, delving into experience design, understanding science communication principles, meeting deadlines, and presenting complex concepts were among these.

Each carefully planned seminar aimed at promoting effective communication provided useful insights into various aspects of the communication process. Attendees learned time management, visual design, and presentation techniques, allowing them to communicate scientific concepts clearly and effectively to non-professional audiences.

On-site hands-on workshops enriched the experience by focusing on creativity enhancement and practical skill development. The immersive learning environment was enhanced by renowned speakers and moderators such as Vladimir Nikitin, Liliya Sazonova, Alessandro Castellano, and others.

The Varna Summer School 2023 not only broadened participants’ horizons, but also created a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange and skill development, transforming them into skilled scientific communicators.

Hands-on Workshops Encourage Creativity

Two outstanding Hands-On Workshops, part of the series “Techniques to Enhance Creativity and Focus,” made an indelible impression on participants. These captivating art sessions, “Behind the Door of Time – The Meeting with Our True Self” on September 26, 2023 (3 hours) and “Journey to My Dream Place” on September 27, 2023 (3 hours), held at the Doctoral School, provided a unique platform for PhD students to reflect and boost their creativity.

The clay modelling workshops facilitated a profound exploration of self and thought. Participants went on a creative journey, transforming their concepts into physical forms. These sessions provided doctoral candidates with a unique opportunity to connect with their inner selves, allowing them to express and reflect on their imaginations and creativity.

The MILIEU project continues to lead initiatives that empower the next generation of scholars and facilitate effective communication among scientists. The IPS Summer School in Varna exemplifies their dedication to academic excellence and collaborative learning.
